M39 is a large but loose star cluster in the north part of Cygnus, about 9 degrees east north-east of Deneb near the Lacerta border. M39 is by far the best star cluster in the constellation, with 30 members spanning half a degree (as large as the moon looks in our sky). M39 is 800 light years distant, much closer and correspondingly bigger and brighter in your telescope. Binoculars will have little trouble spotting M39 under fairly dark skies.
